United Way’s Jeannine Joy named finalist for 2024 APEX Award

United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades President and CEO Jeannine Joy has been named a finalist for the 2024 APEX Award. The winner will be announced at the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Chamber Awards and Board Installation on Wednesday, July 25 at Caloosa Sound Convention Center.

Given by the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business Committee, the APEX Awards recognize local women with outstanding reputations for professionalism, philanthropy and leadership.

Joy was named president and CEO of United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades in June 2019. She joined the nonprofit in 1995 as a campaign associate and served as vice president of resource development and marketing prior to being named president and CEO. During her tenure, Jeannine has helped raise and distribute over $221 million and has worked with hundreds of community leaders and volunteers.

Before, during, and after Hurricane Ian, Joy led the organization to prioritize the needs of the community with a focus on those who lost their homes, belongings, or jobs due to the storm’s impact on the region. United Way’s 211 hotline was a lifeline for individuals that needed help and those seeking information and referrals to health and human service agencies. Under her leadership, the tireless staff and volunteers fielded 25,209 calls 24 hours a day from the time of activation until Oct. 31, 2022.

In 2023, Joy became a two-time honoree as one of the top 30 nonprofit executives in Southwest Florida recognized by the Community Foundation. She was honored for her compassion, strength and leadership during challenging times – specifically the pandemic and Hurricane Ian.
