KOVA Companies is expanding its appraisal service offerings with the acquisition of two appraisal firms, Carlson, Norris and Associates, Inc. and MPJ Real Estate Services, Inc.
Operating as Carlson, Norris and Associates, the acquisition under the KOVA Appraisal & Consulting Services division will expand KOVA’s portfolio of valuation and advisory services.

KOVA Companies was founded in 1990 as a privately owned, full-service commercial real estate firm. Its Appraisal & Consulting Services division provides a host of appraisal services, including real estate property appraisals, feasibility studies, market studies, investment analyses, tax appeals, probate appraisals, bank appraisals and litigation including expert testimony. The acquisition will enable KOVA to serve a diverse range of commercial and residential property types, including freestanding commercial buildings, industrial buildings, shopping centers, office buildings, commercial condominiums, residential developments, vacant land, marinas, self storage facilities, hotels, car washes, wetland and environmentally sensitive lands, special purpose properties and single-family residences.
KOVA’s Carlson, Norris and Associates team is led by three Florida natives with over 100 combined years of real estate appraisal experience. The team includes five MAI-designated professionals, six staff appraisers and an office manager.
Former MPJ Real Estate Services Principal Michael Jonas, MAI, AI-GRS, CCIM, has been appointed managing director of Carlson, Norris and Associates, and is responsible for managing, reviewing and helping produce all work for clients.

Jonas has been appraising commercial real estate since 1999 and has worked with many prestigious firms over his career in roles as a bank review appraiser and eminent domain expert witness. Jonas has completed valuation and review assignments for commercial properties throughout Florida, and focuses on investments ranging from owner-user properties to complex multi-tenant, income-producing properties. He is a licensed real estate broker and has served several years on the board of directors for the Appraisal Institute, and was 2015 president of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Central Florida.
Jonas is joined by Bill Carlson and Lee Norris, the founding partners of Carlson, Norris and Associates. Carlson serves as state-certified general real estate appraiser for the newly merged company. Carlson is a native Floridian, born in Miami, and has lived in Fort Myers since 1963. He has been an appraiser since 1975 and is now semi-retired. Carlson earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and also earned MAI and SRA designations from the Appraisal Institute.
Norris has been appointed director of residential operations and state-certified general real estate appraiser. Born and raised in Fort Myers, Norris has served as an appraiser within the Southwest Florida market for more than 40 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and holds the MRA and SRA designations from the Appraisal Institute.
