Avow awarded $20,000 grant from Moorings Park Foundation

Large Bereavement Room in Avow’s Center for Grief Support

Avow received a $20,000 grant from Moorings Park Foundation to fund adult bereavement services. With this funding, Avow provides grief support services at no cost to the community, assisting approximately 1,425 adults over the age of 65 each year.

“Since 1983, Avow has cared for Collier County’s terminally ill residents and supported their loved ones with bereavement services,” said Jaysen Roa, president and CEO of Avow companies. “We recognize a great need in our community for bereavement support for adults, specifically after the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastation of Hurricane Ian. When left unaddressed, grief can have a significant impact on an individual’s mental health and cause a ripple effect that touches those they are close to and society as a whole. By providing free bereavement services for anyone in the community, our expert team is helping participants to achieve optimal mental health and improve the quality of life for those who have experienced a life-changing loss.”

This grant marks the fifth consecutive year that Avow has received funding from Moorings Park Foundation for adult bereavement services. This continued partnership ensures that Avow’s bereavement support remains available to all grieving members of the community, free of charge.

Grieving adults come to Avow to receive the help they need to navigate their journey of grief, either individually, or in groups of other adults who are facing loss. Each person is in a different stage of their unique grief journey. Upon introduction to Avow’s bereavement program, each participant goes through an evidence-based assessment to ensure that they are introduced into the appropriate program curriculum for their specific stage of grief. Through gentle guidance, participants develop coping skills, begin to better understand their grief and look forward to rediscovering life after loss. Each participant builds a support system, creates a personalized action plan to meet self-identified goals, and receives support in attaining goals.
