The School District of Lee County to host New 2 Teaching Academy Jan. 8 – 19

The School District of Lee County is hosting a New 2 Teaching Academy from Jan. 8 through Jan. 19, 2018. Taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School in Fort Myers, the two-week course will prepare budding teachers for a future career with the District by focusing on: how to manage the learning environment; planning and preparation for teaching and learning; and instructional resources and technology. The event is by invitation only, and those interested in receiving an invitation to the fair can register on The School District of Lee County website at www.leeschools.net/career-changer-academy. Registrations are open through Dec. 11.

To make a career change and become a teacher who inspires children throughout The School District of Lee County, necessary qualifications include: a bachelor’s degree or higher; valid Florida teacher certification covering appropriate area of responsibility; demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication; demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups; and experience with industry-standard computer applications.

The District offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation plan for its employees, and provides teachers with access to support and resources that promote success. The starting compensation package of $52,984 encompasses salary, medical coverage and life insurance, pension and investment plan contributions, and social security and Medicare employer contributions. Relocation bonuses are also available to assist with moving to the area.
