Florida Senior Consulting to host ‘Experts in Aging Panel’ on May 15

Speakers include Florida Senior Consulting, Senior Friendship Centers, Lee Health and FGCU

Florida Senior Consulting invites older adults and their families to a free symposium and luncheon on May 15 at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). In partnership with FGCU’s Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging, the Experts in Aging Panel will feature four speakers offering insights into positive aging, safe transitions, thriving while aging in place, home safety and senior living.

Scott Miller, CEO of Florida Senior Consulting, will speak about the importance of planning ahead. Florida Senior Consulting is the state’s largest privately-owned care management and placement firm, and it partners with seniors and their families to help them navigate the journey of aging.

Tom Felke, executive director of the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging, will discuss the importance of preparing the incoming workforce to serve and support seniors in all aspects. The Shady Rest Institute is a regional hub that connects faculty, staff and FGCU students with community organizations to support the local senior community through workforce development, community engagement, translational research and policy and advocacy.

The chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Senior Friendship Centers, David Blehar, will focus on the power of connection and socialization among seniors. Senior Friendship Centers connects seniors and builds communities in Sarasota, Venice, Charlotte County, Desoto County and Lee County.

Carrie Bloemers, director of the Healthy Life Center at Lee Health Coconut Point, will discuss health and wellness for seniors. The Healthy Life Center offers services and education to promote healthy lifestyles and support early detection of disease and chronic disease management.

The Experts in Aging Panel will take place at the Harvey and Janet Cohen Student Union Ballroom at FGCU, located at 11090 FGCU Blvd North in Fort Myers. Doors open and check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15. The panel will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a question-and-answer session at noon and a complimentary Mediterranean-inspired lunch and reception at 12:30 p.m.
