Bell Tower Shops is launching a social media contest asking shoppers and community members to guess the weight of its trademark bell.
The large metal bell hung for years in an enclosed tower above Bell Tower Shops’ northeast entrance, directly above the sign for Blue Pointe Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill. The signature bell stands 41 inches wide at its base and 39 inches tall.
The social media contest launches Monday, Sept. 24 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 30. Photos and other fun facts will be posted on Bell Tower Shops’ Facebook page. Just respond in the comments section of Bell Tower Shops’ Sept. 24 Facebook post with your guess (maximum of one guess per person), and be as specific as possible – pounds and ounces.
Bell Tower Shops will announce winners on Monday, Oct. 1. The three closest guesses will net special prize packs for the winners.
“We’ve heard many people ask whether there really is a bell at Bell Tower Shops, and the answer is yes!” said Shannon Palzer, marketing manager for Bell Tower Shops. “It was difficult to see, but it’s been hanging in the tower since Bell Tower Shops opened in 1982.”
As part of a comprehensive redevelopment to modernize the 343,000-square-foot destination, the bell was removed this summer and has been refurbished. The newly reconstructed bell tower will feature a modern, open design, with an elegant, blue-tinged light fixture in lieu of a bell. Planners currently are identifying a permanent location to display the bell.
The redevelopment at Bell Tower Shops includes updated architecture, redesigned storefronts, fresh paint and contemporary lighting. All retail stores, boutiques and restaurants will maintain regular operating hours during construction, which is expected to continue through this fall.
