Vibe Yoga is offering prenatal yoga classes on Thursdays at noon through the end of the year. Private prenatal classes are also available, and weekend classes may be added.
Prenatal yoga is a holistic movement and breath practice specifically designed to prepare a mother’s body for all the changes through pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal. Mothers will focus on soothing common discomforts of pregnancy while building awareness, relaxation and strength. No prior yoga knowledge is needed.
“Prenatal yoga is a wonderful opportunity for pregnant women to celebrate their changing bodies and growing babies, while also connecting with their peers to widen their circle of support,” said Lindsay Smith, founder of Vibe Yoga. “Classes include developing stamina techniques, as well as concentration and breath control, invaluable tools during labor and birth.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, prenatal yoga is safe and can improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, increase strength flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth and decrease lower back pain, nausea, headaches and shortness of breath.
Smith and instructor Katie “Bee” Radillo, who will be leading the sessions, have specialized prenatal yoga training and are certified to teach women the safest poses and practices during pregnancy, focusing on gentle stretching and strengthening in addition to mental centering and breathwork.
“Prenatal yoga helps with the normal aches and pains of pregnancy,” said Radillo. “Our breathwork exercises last two minutes, which is the length of the average contraction. That helps with preparation.”
In addition, private prenatal and other yoga is available in the studio for individuals or groups, with a program personalized to specific needs or desires.
A doctor’s clearance is recommended for prenatal yoga. For information or to register for the sessions, visit VibeYogaSWFL.com.
