The 3rd Annual Purpose in Paradise Charity Golf Tournament on April 28 and Bonita Bay Kentucky Derby Gala on May 4 raised $641,440 to add dedicated cancer rehabilitation services to the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Cancer Clinic at the Bonita Health Center.
The shamble-style tournament at the Bonita Bay Club’s Creekside Course was followed by cocktails, dinner and an awards show. Prizes were awarded for Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive. The annual Kentucky Derby Gala included dinner, dancing and a spirited live auction at the Bonita Bay Club.
“The Bonita Bay community has been extremely generous in raising funds for the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Cancer Clinic,” said Debi Wilson, vice president of operations for Lee Health Cancer Institute. “These funds will help us to expand the current rehab center with four private cancer therapy rooms and another room for support garments, wigs and other therapeutic supplies.”
In 2021, residents of Bonita Bay Club made clear their advocacy and support of the then-planned Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Cancer Clinic, which provides innovative treatment therapies, clinical trials and research to increase quality cancer care for the residents of southern Lee and Collier counties. Generosity from the Bonita Bay community through this and other events, named the infusion suite at the new clinic, as well as the pharmacy, for a total gift of $1.5 million.
The clinic opened in August 2023 and includes a 32-chair Infusion Center, four individual treatment rooms and 12 exam rooms to serve 30,000 infusions and 12,000 physician visits annually.
