To celebrate National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers will host a Night of Fun event on Thursday, Sept. 5. The community event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at three Housing Authority communities.

Participating communities include East Pointe Place, located at 3501 Dale St. in Fort Myers, Renaissance Preserve, located at 4221 Othello Lane in Fort Myers, and Horizons Apartments, located at 5360 Summerlin Road in Fort Myers. The event is open to Housing Authority residents and the Fort Myers public.

“It’s important to provide opportunities like this for the Fort Myers community to come together,” said Marcia Davis, executive director of the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers. “Fostering positivity and togetherness serves as a reminder of what we are at our core: a community.”

Several community organizations will make an appearance at the event, including the Fort Myers Fire Department; Fort Myers Police Department; Lee County Emergency Medical Services (EMS); Lee County Sheriff’s Office; Abuse Counseling and Treatment; Ambetter Health; Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida; Army National Guard – Drug Demand Reduction Outreach; The Center for Progress and Excellence (CPE); Defense Security International Group (DSIG); Earp Enterprises Inc.; Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida; Habitat for Humanity of Lee & Hendry Counties; Humana; Kimmie’s Recovery Zone; Lee County Homeless Coalition; Lee Health’s Injury Prevention Team; Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD); Next Level Church; St. Matthew’s House and Urban Strategies, Inc.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s RoboDog and BearCat SWAT vehicle, along with Fort Myers Police vehicles and fire engines, will also be at the event.

Games will be available to play throughout the event and the Housing Authority’s Jobs Plus Community Coaches will host free face painting at each of the three participating locations.

National Night Out is a nationwide celebration to connect police and neighbors for a night of positive community togetherness. Since 1984, the campaign has touched over 38 million neighbors and 17,000 communities nationwide.
