Local hardware company sponsors more than 50 local children’s summer camp experience
Sunshine Ace Hardware, Southwest Florida Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) largest retail sponsor, recently joined the MDA Summer Camp for its annual sponsor day, a carnival-inspired event that brought camp sponsors together with campers to celebrate. During the event, campers engaged in a variety of sponsor-led activities, which included decorating pottery with Sunshine Ace Hardware.
Earlier this year, Sunshine Ace Hardware, its employees and the local community, donated more than $50,000 to MDA, helping to send more than 50 local children affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases to the weeklong, barrier-free MDA Summer Camp.
“Every child deserves to have a great summer and the Southwest Florida MDA Summer Camp offers kids with limited mobility the opportunity to enjoy a fun week without limitations or judgement,” said Michael Wynn, Sunshine Ace Hardware president. “We are extremely appreciative to the Southwest Florida community for helping Sunshine Ace Hardware continue to make a difference in the lives of children and adults with muscular dystrophy or related diseases.”
For more than 25 years, the Southwest Florida MDA Summer Camp has provided kids with a weeklong life-changing experience where they can engage in a variety of activities such as adaptive sports, arts and crafts, camp dances, fishing, swimming and more. The MDA Summer Camp also provides parents and guardians with a brief break from roles of caregiver at no charge thanks to the MDA supporters who fund the camps.
“Sunshine Ace Hardware’s support has empowered us to welcome all interested children with limited muscle strength and mobility to attend this camp,” said Erin Randall, MDA executive director. “It is through their yearly efforts and the support of the community that we are able to successfully continue the Southwest Florida MDA Summer Camp.”
