Sunshine Ace Hardware offering free American flags in advance of Memorial Day

Sunshine Ace Hardware is offering free American flags in advance of Memorial Day to help honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

On Saturday, May 29, the first 250 customers at each Sunshine Ace Hardware store will receive an 8” by 12” flag to display in their homes. No purchase is necessary.

“Sunshine Ace has been a proud supporter of veteran causes for decades, and we want to help spread patriotism across our region this Memorial Day,” said Sunshine Ace President Michael Wynn. “The flag is a symbol of America, but it’s also a symbol that recognizes the accomplishments of veterans nationwide who fought to preserve the liberties and freedom that we enjoy every day.”

Sunshine Ace operates stores in Marco Island, Naples, Golden Gate, Bonita Springs, San Carlos Park, Port Charlotte and Largo, as well as Crowder Bros’ Ace stores in Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch.

Nationally, Ace Hardware is collaborating with the Veterans of Foreign Wars to distribute 1 million flags across the country on May 29. The company also is donating flags for the VFW to mark and honor veterans’ graves over Memorial Day weekend.

“Memorial Day is one of the most important days of the year as we recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s fallen heroes,” said VFW National Commander Hal Roesch. “Teaming up with patriotic and compassionate companies like Ace Hardware help to ensure our fallen service members are never forgotten.”

In addition to the American flag giveaways, Sunshine Ace also operates a year-round flag retirement program. Community members can drop off old or worn American flags at specially marked bins inside stores. Local veteran and youth groups will then collect flags and hold a proper retirement ceremony.
