Customers at Sunshine Ace Hardware and Crowder Bros. Ace Hardware stores joined a quest to improve local waterways and the economy by donating $9,529 for red tide recovery programs.
Over a 17-day period this summer, Ace Hardware associates asked customers if they’d like to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar to support Coastal Conservation Association Florida, an organization that is restocking coastal waters following massive fish kills in 2018.
“I continue to be amazed with the generosity of our customers,” said Sunshine Ace Hardware President Michael Wynn. “Every time we hold a ‘round up’ fundraiser, whether it’s for red tide recovery, hurricane relief, the Muscular Dystrophy Association or another cause, our customers always rise to the occasion.”
Nine Sunshine Ace stores in Collier, Lee, Charlotte and Pinellas, as well as two Crowder Bros. Ace Hardware stores in Manatee County, participated in the CCA Florida collection.
“Coastal Conservation Association is committed to the SWFL coastal environment and requires the support from those who enjoy our marine resources,” said CCA Florida Executive Director Brian Gorski. “We greatly appreciate the years of support from Crowder Bros. Ace and Sunshine Ace Hardware, as well as their customers, who share in our commitment to conserve, enhance and protect our state’s marine resources, including those in Southwest Florida.”
Sunshine Ace has supported a number of causes that address water quality throughout the region. The company also participated in “Care for Collier Fund” and “SWFL Cares Fund,” a pair of fundraising initiatives last year to help Southwest Florida businesses and residents recover from the region’s water quality crisis. Sunshine Ace’s collection contributed more than $13,000 to the two funds.
“Our initial focus last year was helping the people that faced immediate economic losses because of a tourism slowdown and less business activity along the beaches,” Wynn said. “Now that our region’s water quality has improved, CCA Florida is helping restock our depleted marine fisheries with healthy redfish and snook.”
Founded in 1985, CCA Florida is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of Florida’s marine resources.
