Stevens Construction completes Alva United Methodist Church 115-year-old steeple ravaged by Hurricane Irma

Stevens Construction has completed a steeple replacement project at the Alva United Methodist Church located at 21440 Pearl Street in Alva, announced Mark Stevens, company president.

Built in 1903 and established in 1886, the Alva United Methodist Church sustained wind damage as a result of Hurricane Irma in 2017. The entire steeple blew off onto the street and the bell was the only piece still intact. The congregation of 325 fundraised to ensure the steeple could be built to surpass its original splendor. Stevens Construction provided the foundation and structural steel work to build a new 40-foot steeple that has been strengthened to meet current codes. The bell was refurbished by Naples Sand Blasting and Dean Supply.

The Stevens Construction team included project manager, Mike Waskiewicz, superintendent, Gary Tipton, and project administrator, Sue Ziegenfus. Burt Hill/Pollock Krieg Architects, Inc. provided the design services.

With offices in Fort Myers, Tampa and Orlando, Stevens Construction specializes in providing construction management, general contracting and consulting services to clients and design professionals. Other services include site and design team selection, budgeting, project scheduling, permitting, cost and quality control and warranty service. The company builds healthcare, commercial and hospitality facilities. For information, visit www.stevensconstructioninc.com or call 239-936-9006.
