The season of giving (and receiving)
Several area nonprofit and not-for-profit organizations have recently announced major grants and donations to help fuel their missions, including the following:
- Lee Health, through the Lee Health Foundation, received a $10 million gift from Tom Golisano to support Golisano Children’s Hospital and pediatric health care services in Southwest Florida.
- Warrior Homes of Collier received nearly $1.2 million in donations at its charity golf tournament and Hope and Honor Gala to assist veterans with housing, mental health support and access to higher education.
- Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance received a $1 million grant from The Schoen Foundation to help construct the nonprofit’s third 16-unit apartment building.
- Conservancy of Southwest Florida raised almost $210,000 at its RedSnook Catch and Release Charity Tournament to continue its work to protect the region’s waters.
- Premier Mobile Health Solutions’ Roaring Twenties-themed Premier Speakeasy raised $200,000 to support its nonprofit medical clinic on wheels.
- Community Cooperative raised $155,000 at its 18th Annual Becoming Cosmopolitan: Mad About Hunger event to fuel food and education programs.
- Warrior Homes of Collier received a $110,000 donation from The Schoen Foundation to provide supportive housing for local veterans.
- Lee Health Foundation raised $109,340 at the 12th Annual Golisano Children’s Hospital Fashion Show to support the planned Golisano Children’s Hospital Surgery Center.
- Lee Health Foundation received $50,000 from Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to support the dedicated schoolteacher at Golisano Children’s Hospital.
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County raised $45,000 at its fourth Annual Golf Tournament to enhance after-school and summer programs.
- Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers received nearly $37 million in funding from Lee County through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery fund.
- Edison National Bank donated $7,500 to The Heights Foundation to provide 300 frozen turkeys to the Harlem Heights community.
Culinary event announces sizzling results
Sizzle Dining, Southwest Florida’s premier culinary event, broke multiple records in 2024. Event leaders announced a record fundraising total of $62,529 – which represents $1 for every meal sold during the three-week event – thanks to a record 114 participating restaurants. Proceeds from the event support Blessings in a Backpack of Southwest Florida, which provides nutritional food for food insecure students throughout the school year.

Music legends coming to SWFL
The Charity Pros announced new dates for its blockbuster, three-day Harvest Nights Music Festival, which will feature 14 acts, including household names like Def Leppard, Brad Paisley, Train and more. The Jan. 10-12 event in Immokalee also includes a variety of food and unique crafts from local vendors, and benefits Cancer Alliance Network, Collier Community Foundation, Guadalupe Center and The Immokalee Foundation.

New faces in new places: Promotions and appointments

- Better Together hired Jess Sharpe as chief operating officer and added Peter Rivera to Board of Directors
