Minnesota Twins Celebrity Golf Classic raises more than $95,000 for Lee Health programs at Regional Cancer Center

Minnesota Twins players, coaches and alumni joined baseball fans and business sponsors at the 21st annual Minnesota Twins Celebrity Golf Classic, which raised more than $95,000 to support Lee Health programs at Regional Cancer Center.

The Golf Classic featured Twins legends Bert Blyleven, Tony Oliva, Dan Gladden, Joe Nathan and a mix of current and former coaches and players, each of whom was paired with a foursome of golfers. With an 18-hole score of 54 in the best ball scramble format, the winning team was Travis McGuire, Justin Fugua, Justin Hostings, Rusty Calfus and Oliva, an eight-time MLB all-star and 2000 Twins Hall of Fame inductee.

The Golf Classic was held Feb. 15 at The Club at Gateway in Fort Myers and included lunch, hole-in-one prizes, cocktails, dinner and sports memorabilia offered through both silent and live auctions.

Proceeds from the Golf Classic will support the new integrative medicine program by Lee Health at the Regional Cancer Center, Southwest Florida’s premier cancer care center that treats all aspects of patient care under one roof. The Center’s new integrative medicine program, created in response to higher rates of cancer survival and patients living longer, incorporates traditional services like physical rehabilitation, peer counseling and dietician services with therapies such as acupuncture, reiki and others. The Center has received accreditation with commendation from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.

Sponsors for the Golf Classic included Cam, Inc., Enterprise, Glase Golf, Inc., Jaguar Fort Myers, KHS&S Contractors, Myles McHale – U.S. Bank, The Petracco Family Foundation, Salty Crab Bar & Grill, Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, Service Contracting Solutions, Wayne Smith, STERIS Instrument Management Services, TECO Gas, Tria Orthopaedic and Whitemore Fire Consultants.
