Community Cooperative has named board member Wayne Kirkwood, former owner and president of Kirkwood Electric, to the nonprofit’s Lifetime Advisory Board. The board is made up of longtime supporters who continue to serve in an advisory role to the innovative nonprofit made up of social service entrepreneurs fighting to end hunger and homelessness in Southwest Florida.
Kirkwood helped the organization rebrand from Community Cooperative Ministries Inc. to Community Cooperative Inc. and has been a champion in leading the organization in decision making as it grew from a small, struggling nonprofit to become a highly respected, sustainable, responsible and effective organization. Kirkwood was recognized as an ENPY Nonprofit Board Leader of the Year in 2019 by the Cape Coral Community Foundation for his service on the Community Cooperative board of directors.
“Wayne has been equal parts measured guidance and enthusiastic support for me, and I am honored to have worked alongside him for the better part of a decade,” said Tracey Galloway, CEO. “His passion for Community Cooperative’s mission and his desire to make this community better for everyone who lives here is why he deserves every accolade he receives.”
Kirkwood joins the organization’s co-founder Sam Galloway Jr. and lifetime directors Sybil Edgar, Helen Fallert, Rev. Richard Grady, Steve Shimp, Christine Larson, John McGee and John Klass Sr.
In 2020, Community Cooperative assisted tens of thousands of Lee County residents through its Community Cafes, Community Market, Community Mobile Pantries and the Meals on Wheels program, as well as homeless and comprehensive case management services through its Social and Education Resource Centers.
