Cape Coral BMX Club will host the 2017 Sunshine State BMX Association Florida Cup Series Qualifiers Friday, Sept. 30, through Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Strausser BMX Park, 1410 SW 6th Place, Cape Coral. The competition will begin with a skills clinic at 2 p.m. on Sept. 30, and races will take place the following two days. The Florida Cup Series Qualifiers is free and open to spectators.

Lee County Sports Development anticipates that the event will generate approximately 1,000 hotel room nights, $5,000 in resort tax and $308,000 in direct economic impact.

“BMX is growing in popularity, and the qualifiers for the Florida Cup Series offers spectators a unique dynamic experience,” said Jeff Mielke, executive director of Lee County Sports Development. “Similar events have brought hundreds of riders to the community, providing opportunities for visitors to experience many other attractions and amenities while further showcasing Cape Coral and surrounding areas as a sports tourism destination.”

“We are happy to be partnering with Lee County and hosting the Florida Cup Series Qualifiers event at our BMX Sports Complex,” said Steve Pohlman, Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Director. “BMX racing is an exciting sport, and our BMX track is a great venue for these competitions.”
