Lee BIA Builders Care’s Burly Wine Experience raises over $125,000 for three deserving needy families in Lee County

Lee BIA Builders Care recently hosted the food and wine fundraiser known as the “Burly Wine Experience,” bringing the building industry community together to raise money for three deserving needy families in Lee County. Over the course of the evening, $50,000 was raised in donations and services valued over $75,000 were donated from national homebuilder, Lennar Homes.

As the nonprofit charitable arm of the Lee Building Industry Association (BIA), Lee BIA Builders Care provides emergency construction services at no cost to needy and deserving elderly and/or disabled homeowners, and their families, who cannot obtain repairs through traditional means.

Funds raised through the “Burly Wine Experience” will grant life-changing projects for three local families, including a bathroom remodel and additional improvements to aid a couple in caring for their adult son, who was born with Klinefelter syndrome and diagnosed with nephrogenic systemic fibrosis at a young age; a new roof and other life-changing improvements for a 61-year-old currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, and outfitting an accessible bathroom for a 93-year-old World War II veteran and his family. Lee BIA Builders Care will complete two of these projects before the holidays, with the third slated to begin in January.

“The goal of the evening was to raise money to provide renovations such as handicap accessible bathrooms, wheelchair ramps and extensive roof repairs,” said Becky Swift, executive director of Lee BIA Builders Care. “We vastly exceeded our fundraising goal and we are looking forward to improving the quality of life for the three families presented at the event. I am truly amazed to see members of our community step up and give back to those in need.”

The event featured an exquisite four-course meal personally crafted by acclaimed executive chef Brian Roland, owner of Crave Culinaire and Venue Naples. The dinner included wine pairings from Napa Valley boutique winery, Burly Wine, and a lively presentation by winery owner Hank McCrorie and his winemaker, Massimo Monticelli.

The “Burly Wine Experience” was sponsored by Investor’s Security Trust, Land Solutions, Private Physicians of Southwest Florida, Storm Smart and IBERIABANK.
