Lee BIA Builders Care earns Senator’s Pride of Florida Award for helping elderly, disabled homeowners in Southwest Florida

Lee BIA Builders Care was honored with the prestigious Senator’s Pride of Florida Award for the nonprofit organization’s longstanding commitment to provide quality housing for elderly and disabled residents in Southwest Florida.

Florida Senators Lizbeth Benacquisto (R-Fort Myers) and Kathleen Passidomo (R-Naples) joined Senate President Bill Galvano (R-Bradenton) in presenting the award to Lee BIA Builders Care, the nonprofit charitable arm of the Lee Building Industry Association (BIA).

Accepting the award were Lee BIA Builders Care Executive Director Becky Swift, Director of Client Services and Projects Mandi Wray, Board of Directors President Dan Beiter and Board of Directors Member Michael Reitmann.

Lee BIA Builders Care’s mission is to provide emergency construction services at no cost to needy and deserving elderly and/or disabled homeowners, and their families, who cannot obtain repairs through traditional means.

Senators commended the nonprofit’s history of helping local families in need, singling out a pair of projects completed just before the holidays: a roof replacement for a Fort Myers woman fighting breast cancer and a bathroom renovation and other home improvements for a Lehigh Acres family that faces debilitating medical conditions.

“Thanks to the generous support of our industry and corporate partners, we’ve been able to help more than 385 individuals and families in Lee County over the past 12 years,” Swift said. “The Senator’s Pride of Florida Award isn’t just recognizing our organization, but also the hundreds of local businesses that have donated money and supplies, as well as thousands of volunteers who have helped build wheelchair ramps, install new roofs, remodel homes and complete other critical repairs that allow these deserving families to safely and comfortably live in their homes.”
