Warrior Homes of Collier, a Naples-based nonprofit serving at-risk and homeless veterans, is proud to announce that LaPlaya Golf Club is hosting the organization’s annual benefit golf tournament for the 15th consecutive year.
This Saturday, Oct. 25, LaPlaya’s managing partner Steve Lockwood will be donating the use of the golf course for the day to support our veterans. Warrior Homes of Collier is the only charity in Collier County that has the distinction of holding its golf event at LaPlaya for 15 years in a row.
The tournament begins with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
“Steve has a real heart for veterans,” said Dale Mullin, a retired Vietnam veteran, founder and president of Warrior Homes of Collier. “His father served in WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He sustained lifelong injuries.” Mullin added, “The staff at LaPlaya has made this event so special and successful that 95% of the players return each year and as a result there is a waiting list to play.”
The event has raised $1.8 million in its 15 years of existence. All the funds raised have gone to Warrior Homes of Collier’s programs.
Warrior Homes of Collier operates six Naples residences for local veterans: Alpha House, a short-term, transitional home for those in recovery from substance use issues; Delta House, a supportive housing complex with 10 apartments for up to 20 veterans; as well as Bravo, Charlie, Echo and Foxtrot Houses, which provides long term supportive housing for Veterans.
In addition to temporary housing solutions, Warrior Homes connects veterans with support services like mental health counseling and peer support as well as educational opportunities that offer college scholarships.
