Historic gift to transform SWFL nonprofit 

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida received a historic $25 million grant from the John & Carol Walter Family Foundation, the largest philanthropic commitment in the organization’s history. The grant builds upon 60 years of visionary donor support, enabling the Conservancy of Southwest Florida to transform the current Nature Center brand and public offerings into the new redefined John & Carol Walter Nature Experience. The goal is to inspire and invite the community to protect our shared natural environment that preserves our unique way of life enjoyed today, and into the future.

Sea turtles to get new home on Sanibel  

The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) received a $1.2 million grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) for the construction of a new, state-of-the-art Sea Turtle Complex, which will replace the facility destroyed by Hurricane Ian in 2022. The complex will be dedicated to Bill and Laurie Harkey, avid wildlife and sea turtle advocates who helped secure over $2.5 million in funding for the facility.

Mobile health clinic expands into Collier 

Premier Mobile Health Services, a nonprofit health clinic that brings essential medical care to those in need across Lee County, is growing its footprint with a new location in Immokalee following a $30,000 grant from the Moorings Park Foundation. The organization is now providing free health screenings and education on disease prevention in the rural agricultural community with an emphasis on those who are 60 and older.

Collier veterans find new home 

Three Naples men who served their country with duty and honor started the new year in a new home thanks to Warrior Homes of Collier, a local nonprofit that assists veterans in need with housing, mental health support and access to higher education. “My life has completely changed,” one veteran said. “Warrior Homes of Collier saved my life.”

March to a Million Meals for Harry Chapin Food Bank 

WINK News kicked off its annual March to a Million Meals campaign in partnership with Copperleaf Golf Club to address food insecurity in Southwest Florida. The Hunger Walk at Copperleaf raised $60,000 and generated 2,087 pounds of food donations for Harry Chapin Food Bank. Throughout February, supporters can watch WINK to participate in the annual telethon.

Awards and honors: Client recognitions 

Priority Marketing helps clients share the good news when they win awards, accolades or have other exciting updates to share. Below are recent items that caught our PR team’s attention: 

  • The School District of Lee County won a Platinum MarCom Award for its Communications & Engagement Plan and a Gold MarCom Award for its annual Impact Report. 
  • Lee County Legal Aid Society’s Maria Alaimo received the Florida Bar Pro Bono Service Award for her pro-bono work on behalf of low-income and disadvantaged clients. 
  • Naples Airport Authority’s Ken Warringer received the 2024 Risk Management Professional of the Year award in the Small and Non-Hub Airport category by Airports Council International-North America. 

New faces in new places: Promotions and appointments 

Congratulations to the following individuals who were recently hired, promoted or awarded additional responsibilities by client partners that Priority Marketing serves: 

  • Southwest Florida Proton has hired Dr. Shannon MacDonald to serve as the new center’s senior medical director. 
  • Lee Health Foundation has hired Alexander Rivero as associate director of development. 
  • Naples Airport Authority elected Commissioner Rita Cuddihy as chairman and Terry Cavanaugh as vice chair for 2025. 
  • Concierge Care Naples welcomed Dr. Linsey Atchison to lead the new medical practice.
