The Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance was recently awarded a $60,000 grant for kitchen cabinets, countertops and bathroom vanities at The League Club’s annual Briefcase Breakfast.
The $60,000 was one of 34 grants awarded to local non-profit organizations at the event by The League Club, a 501(c)(3) comprised of current or former members of a Junior League who aim to strengthen communities through fellowship, education, volunteerism and philanthropy.
The grant will help alleviate costs for the Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance’s affordable and safe apartment buildings. Building one was completed in December 2024, and 16 families have moved in and now call the community home. Construction is currently underway on buildings two and three of the eight planned buildings that will house Immokalee’s hardworking farmworkers and low-income families. Each building will house 16 families in two- and three-bedroom apartments.
“Thanks to the generosity of our members and donors, The League Club has continued to honor its ‘Commitment to Community’ by raising funds and distributing these funds through grants made to carefully vetted not-for-profit agencies in Collier and Lee counties,” said Donna Lindberg, President 2024-2025, The League Club. “In its 38-year history, The League Club has awarded over $8 million dollars to deserving grant applicants.”
“We’re thankful to The League Club for recognizing our mission to build a better future for families in Immokalee,” said Dr. Arol Buntzman, chairman of the board, Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance. “This grant will help furnish safe and affordable homes and provide a sense of stability and security for deserving children and families.”
