Hiring employers, resource partners announced for Aug. 7 community job fair in Gardner

Job seekers can connect face-to-face with 24 hiring employers and six community resource partners at an upcoming community job fair in the Gardner area. The event is hosted by Grace Baptist Church in partnership with Better Together, a nonprofit dedicated to families and children.

The job fair will be held on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, located at 650 E. Madison St. in Gardner. Job seekers and hiring employers can register by texting “JOBS” to 844-987-3949.

With job openings available across various industry sectors, hiring employers offer full- and part-time positions, day and night shifts, and second-chance or fair-chance employment opportunities. Participating employers include All City Management Services – The Crossing Guard Co., AutoZone, Azria Health Olathe, Brook + Whittle, Cosentino’s Price Chopper, Examinetics, FedEx, First Student, Four Seasons Home Products, Gardner Edgerton School District, Hy-Vee Corporation, Johnson County Community College, Johnson County Park and Recreation District, KidsTLC, Lennox, Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital, Olathe Public Schools, Paydayz Staffing, Preferred Asphalt and Concrete, Rajmahal Indian Restaurant, Spring Hill School District, Staffmark, Stouse and The University of Kansas Health System.

With a spirit of hope and celebration, the job fair empowers job seekers by connecting them with local employers who are ready to hire, while offering supportive services that foster meaningful connections and increase opportunities for lasting employment. Free one-on-one job coaching sessions are available to job seekers to review resumes, and additional services will be available onsite. Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters and job coaches will be onsite to support Spanish-language speakers as well as job seekers who are deaf or have other disabilities.

Several local resource partners will offer various onsite services, including Celebrate Recovery, Connections to Success and Dress for Success Kansas City, Per Scholas, Step Up adult diploma program, The Hope Market and Women’s Employment Network.

The community job fair is part of Better Together’s “Better Jobs” program, which has helped more than 40,000 applicants connect with employment opportunities across 24 states. So far this year, more than 2,600 interviews or initial jobs have been offered.

Better Together is a nonprofit organization that helps parents going through a hard time keep their kids out of foster care, find work and address the root causes of their struggle so that they can reunite as a family with the tools and support system to thrive. A privately funded and professionally supported organization, Better Together is made up of volunteers who believe helping people help themselves is the best way to restore dignity and bring families together. Through the Better Families program, families are offered a preventive alternative to foster care while they get the help they need. To date, the program has kept 98% of children served out of foster care. The Better Jobs program was created to address the 76% of families that come to Better Together because of economic hardship tied to unemployment.
