Gulf Coast Village’s Care Center has received a 5-star rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a federal agency that evaluates nursing homes on quantitative and qualitative measures.
A 5-star rating indicates superior marks on health inspections, staffing and quality measures.
“CMS holds senior living communities to an extremely high standard, so earning a 5-star rating is an incredible testament that the safety and well-being of our residents remains the top priority for staff,” said Kevin Ahmadi, area director of operations for Volunteers of America, which sponsors Gulf Coast Village. “Creating a top-tier senior living community is about more than just a beautiful facility with a variety of amenities and activities. Gulf Coast Village certainly has that, but also adds an exceptional level of compassionate care that gives comfort to residents and their families.”
CMS is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is the federal agency that administers the Medicare program.
The CMS health inspection ratings consider nine standards: freedom from abuse, neglect or exploitation; quality of life and care; resident assessment and care planning; nursing and physician services, resident rights; nutrition and dietary; pharmacy service; environmental; and administration. Additional factors include the number of nurse staff hours, hospitalization rate, visits to the emergency room, injurious falls, hospital readmissions and more. Ratings are used by consumers, regulators, insurers and provider networks to select facilities for potential relationships.
Founded in 1989, Gulf Coast Village is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that offers the full continuum of care for adults over age 62. The community features independent living, assisted living, specialized memory support, skilled nursing, home health, rehabilitation services and Senior Choice at Home, a continuing care at home program, the only of its kind in Florida.
According to LeadingAge, a nonprofit research organization, Gulf Coast Village rates higher than county, state and national averages based on surveys, staffing levels, health inspection reports and overall quality.
