Giving Tuesday is an annual opportunity to support local nonprofit organizations addressing charitable causes that align with your interests.
For many people, philanthropic giving is a feel-good action to create a difference in the community, to put money where your heart is, so to speak.
For businesses, corporate giving is about demonstrating that your company cares about the community where it does business. It’s about enhancing the place where employees live, work and play.
What is corporate giving?
Donor Perfect, an online platform that partners with nonprofits to raise money, notes the term “corporate giving” refers to financial or in-kind support to nonprofit organizations. This can include one-time gifts, sponsorships, employee-driven campaigns and structured corporate donation programs.
Donor Perfect notes the reason so many businesses have a corporate giving philosophy:
“Corporate giving is no longer just a line item in the budget – it’s a meaningful driver of change in philanthropy. For nonprofits, company donations to charity represent more than financial support; they open doors to valuable partnerships, community engagement and long-term impact.”
Double the Donation, an online platform that matches nonprofits with philanthropic businesses, notes that corporations donate, on average, between $20-26 billion annually to nonprofits. The total increases every year.
What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is an annual international movement that encourages support for community-based organizations and charitable causes. Across the world, nonprofit organizations will be sharing their mission and telling stories of success, triumph and impact. These organizations need our help to reach their goals.
In 2025, Giving Tuesday will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The day comes after a trio of consumer-oriented recognitions: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.
Four notes as Giving Tuesday approaches
Community-oriented businesses can – and should – support charitable causes year-round, not just on Giving Tuesday.
- Nonprofit organizations always appreciate monetary donations, but that’s not the only way businesses can give back. Donating time through volunteerism is welcomed and appreciated.
- Get your employees involved. Bringing employees into the fold can foster a positive workplace culture, boost morale and encourage camaraderie. Generally, it makes employees feel good about the place where they work.
- Giving to local charities signals your company’s commitment to your hometown. It also shares your organization’s values with neighbors, charity partners and local media.
- Let others know who you’re helping, and why. Being a philanthropic leader in the community encourages other businesses and residents to engage with the organizations your company supports. Although it’s not a primary goal in philanthropic giving, customers and clients often elect to support businesses that share the same values.

A culture of giving
Giving permeates the culture at Priority Marketing. In fact, it’s woven into the company’s fabric.
Did you know? Since its inception, Priority Marketing has donated more than $6 million in discounted and pro bono professional services to nonprofit organizations.
To help clients, community partners and residents, below are four steps to giving on Giving Tuesday and beyond:
- Choose a cause: Become a passionate supporter by identifying causes that personally impact your company, leadership team or employees.
- Find a local nonprofit: Although national organizations operate locally, find a locally based nonprofit with a solid mission and strong reputation.
- Donate: Decide whether to give your time, talent or treasure. Businesses that manufacture or distribute products, or provide professional services, can offer in-kind support.
- Talk about it: Let the community know what you’re doing, and why. This encourages others to take a more active role in supporting the community.
Giving isn’t just about creating warm, fuzzy feelings. It’s about making a difference in the community and showing you care.
