New housing development rising in Immokalee
The Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance is celebrating a milestone on a first-of-its-kind residential development that helps families move from dilapidated, overcrowded shacks and trailers into brand-new, affordable apartments. The project includes 128 two- and three-bedroom apartments, along with a community center for meetings, after-school programs, health care assistance and more.

Interns welcome modern digs in Naples
The Conservancy of Southwest Florida celebrated the opening of its new Environmental Studies Dormitory, which accommodates interns working in environmental education, science exploration (including sea turtle research), Burmese python research and the von Arx Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital. The project was made possible through a generous donation by Jeannie Meg and Christopher Byron Smith with support from friends of the Conservancy.

Brewery comes of age
Fort Myers Brewing Company celebrated its 10th anniversary with a four-day party that featured the brewery’s signature taps and new beer releases, along with food trucks and live music. Fort Myers Brewing started a decade ago with a 400-square-foot facility as Lee County’s first microbrewery, and today is among the state’s largest at 22,000 square feet.

SWFL seniors get special treatment
Prom season isn’t until the spring, but a group of seniors recently had a night to remember. This senior prom had a few high school seniors, but attendees were primarily senior citizens – residents at The Preserve in Fort Myers. Two weeks after that celebration, residents again enjoyed the royal treatment as local children brought flowers and candy for Valentine’s Day, along with some furry friends for companionship.
