Family Initiative’s Redefining Autism speaker series continues Nov. 11 with Dr. Michael Morrier

Family Initiative’s Redefining Autism speaker series continues Nov. 11 with renowned expert Dr. Michael Morrier presenting on how the diagnosis, treatment and conversation about autism has been redefined over the years.

Free and open to the public, the event will be held at 3 p.m. at the Family Initiative Autism Center, 734 SW 4th St. in Cape Coral. Registration is requested by email: RFecteau@Fi-Florida.org.

Morrier serves on the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE) Quality Measurement Provider Panel (QMPP). An Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Morrier has worked in the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA) since 1988 providing early intervention to young children with autism spectrum disorder and their families. His focus is on how to embed ABA principles and strategies within a child/family’s natural environments including home, school, and community. He became a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) in 2007 and received his BCBA-D designation in 2008. Morrier has a wide-ranging publication record related to social treatments for children with ASD and their same-aged neurotypical peers; his most recent publication (Increasing Social Interactions of Preschool Children with Autism through Cooperative Outdoor Play) was accepted for publication in an upcoming issue of The Journal of Special Education.

Each month, Family Initiative welcomes speakers to participate in its Redefining Autism series. Upcoming events are posted online at fi-florida.org/
