Lee County Sheriff to launch Deputy Dogs program at Bell Tower
Bell Tower will celebrate a milestone in its year-long redevelopment with a family- and pet-friendly community event on April 13.
Festi-Bell features live music, children’s activities and the first major public appearance for Deputy Chance, the newest canine member of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Bell Tower is celebrating its comprehensive redevelopment that modernized the 343,000-square-foot destination with updated architecture, redesigned storefronts, fresh paint and contemporary lighting. Festi-Bell is a free event that runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Bell Tower, 13499 S. Cleveland Ave. in Fort Myers.
Festi-Bell kicks off with a special appearance by Chance, an abandoned dog found in Lehigh Acres bleeding, dehydrated and with his muzzle taped shut. Chance’s story of abuse, survival and healing made national news, and he ultimately was adopted and deputized by Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno.
Chance has been on the mend, and Festi-Bell will be his first major public appearance. Chance will join Marceno and others from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the entrance to Grimaldi’s and Society for a meet-and-greet and photo opportunities, and will be joined by another canine ambassador, Lieutenant Bosco. Chance also serves as the official “spokesdog” for Deputy Dogs, a new volunteer program asking pet owners to be law enforcement’s eyes and ears in the streets while walking their dogs. The Sheriff’s Office will be registering pets and their owners from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Festi-Bell.
Local musicians and entertainers will be performing throughout the mall at various times including The Island Doctor, Brian Markley, Nostaljah Band, DJ Robert McDonald and balloon artist and stilt walker Way Too Tall Torrie. Guests can stop by the children’s activation station sponsored by 96.9 WINK FM on the lawn area near World of Beer for a chance to meet Henry the dairy cow of Southern Fresh Farms – that’s right, a meet-and-greet and photo ops with the happiest cow in Fort Myers! Endless Trails Stables will be bringing mini ponies Misty and Majik, as well as their Arabian friend, Jules. The Gulf Coast Humane Society, Cat County 107.1 and other community partners also will be participating at Festi-Bell.
Additional activities include kids crafts, complimentary face painting, a bounce house, photo booth fun, beer specials for mom and dad, and so much more!
