Cypress Lake Golf Club Hosts Drive Out Hunger Challenge, issues challenge to other golf clubs to support local food banks

Cypress Lake Golf Club is stepping up to drive out hunger and issuing a challenge to the golfing community throughout Florida, as thousands of Southwest Florida families are struggling to put food on the table right now.

On April 22-25, Cypress Lake Golf Club, Fort Myers’ oldest and most historic private golf course, is hosting

the “Drive Out Hunger Challenge,” a four-day fundraiser to benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank.

As an increasing number of families across Lee County are faced with loss of work or diminished income due to the coronavirus pandemic, many are struggling to put food on their tables. As a result of the growing need for food relief services, local food banks are now in dire need of financial support.

After learning about the great needs in our community, Jon Pazdera, PGA, Director of Golf at Cypress Lake Golf Club, issued a Video Challenge, challenging members to participate by making a pledge to Harry Chapin Food Bank – golfers can pledge a set donation per shot, and at the end of the round, donors’ pledges will be totaled for their game. To follow social distancing practices and limit exposure, the Club is spacing out the tee times and hosting the event over the course of four days.

“In addition to engaging our members, we are challenging our fellow golf clubs, professionals and vendors to help by hosting a Drive Out Hunger challenge for your members or urging donations to our Drive Out Hunger campaign to benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank, “ said Jon Pazdera, PGA, Director of Golf at Cypress Lake Golf Club. “It’s simple: members pledge a donation per stroke in an upcoming game, which is multiplied by their strokes at the end of the round. Those who can’t play can simply donate from home; any amount is welcome.”

Funds raised will support the Harry Chapin Food Bank in its efforts to help ensure that no one goes hungry during this unprecedented time. Through its ability to buy in bulk, Harry Chapin Food Bank is able to convert every $1 raised into $8 for food to help feed the community.
