CRS Technology Consultants drops 100th episode of ‘Solid State Podcast’ covering tech, IT industry

CRS Technology Consultants has published the 100th episode of its Solid State Podcast, a free-flowing conversation geared toward techies, business leaders and everyday consumers of technology.

Launched in March 2022, the Solid State Podcast addresses the latest news, events, trends and cultural moments defining the technology industry. Hosted by three of CRS’ tech experts – Co-owner John Joyce, Security Lead Eric Sargent and Systems Engineering Team Lead Cody Toscano – the Solid State Podcast explores technology products, people and services that impact the daily lives of Southwest Florida residents, businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Podcast topics range the gamut of technology, including end user topics like cybersecurity, smart home devices, the future of movie theaters, Black Friday deals, gaming systems and reviews of new Apple and Android devices. For IT insiders, topics have covered tips to engineer a personal computer, consumer electronics revealsand developing camera technology.

“These are the type of conversations we have when we’re together in the office, but we realized that our dialogue might be helpful to business leaders, parents, students and of course tech insiders,” Joyce said. “Even if you’re not a ‘tech person,’ technology still impacts your life more than you can imagine, from the obvious like computers, cellphones and TVs to how we shop, drive, vacuum the floor, wash dishes and cool our homes.”

New episodes of the Solid State Podcast are posted weekly across podcasting platforms, including Apple PodcastsSpotifyAmazon MusicPodBean and Listen Notes. Future podcasts will periodically feature guests inside and outside the tech industry.

Joyce joined CRS in 2015 and previously owned a Fort Myers-based technology company. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer systems networking and telecommunications from the University of Florida.

Sargent has served as a systems engineer at CRS since 2009 and also has experience as a trim out supervisor for an electronics store in Cape Coral and director of audio-visual services for an event technology business in Sanibel. He studied cinematography and video production at Burlington College and film/cinema at the Academy of Art University.

Toscano has been a lead engineer at CRS since 2015 and previously was a systems engineer for a locally owned technology company in Fort Myers.

“At first, we weren’t sure anybody would want to listen to a couple tech guys talking about topics like vinyl records, iPods and tech consolidation,” Sargeant said, “but each episode is getting a few hundred downloadsacross platforms and our audience continues to grow.”

Podcasts are unscripted and have ranged from 17 minutes to 1 hour, 35 minutes. Downloads are free on all streaming platforms.

“Tech podcasts and blogs are a dime a dozen on the internet, and unfortunately, many are of little value to consumers of tech,” Toscano added. “We aren’t trying to sell any products or services to listeners; we’re just trying to educate, enlighten and hopefully entertain.”
