It is baby season for wildlife in Southwest Florida, and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida is hosting its first Wildlife Hospital Baby Shower to help patients at the von Arx Wildlife Hospital. The shower is taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida. The Conservancy of Southwest Florida is seeking the support of Southwest Florida to fulfill the need for supplies by asking community members to send or to bring a gift item or gift basket to help provide the hospital’s youngest patients with the best possible care.
The wildlife hospital is registered with Amazon Wish List or a list of needed items can be found online at www.conservancy.org/babyshower. Monetary donations are always appreciated and can be made online at www.conservancy.org/helpwildlife.
The von Arx Wildlife Hospital has seen a 20 percent increase in wildlife admissions within the last year, which has resulted in a greater need for supplies that are essential to patient care, ranging from food products to medical supplies. The baby shower will support patients of the von Arx Wildlife Hospital through the donation of funds or supplies needed to care for the greater number of injured and orphaned native wildlife within its facilities. Donations may be dropped off at the Lutgert Commons Area outside of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida’s Welcome Center. Those unable to attend the event still have the opportunity to show their support by donating items online from the von Arx Wildlife Hospital’s Amazon Wish List, which will be sent directly to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.
Donors will receive one free admission to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida’s 21-acre Nature Center, and will be entered into a drawing for a chance to join wildlife rehabilitation staff on an animal release or baby bird re-nesting.
“The von Arx Wildlife Hospital will treat hundreds of baby animals during the spring and summer months, including various birds, mammals and reptiles,” said Joanna Fitzgerald, director of the von Arx Wildlife Hospital. “Any donation is greatly appreciated as we rely 100 percent on donations to fund our wildlife hospital.”
