Community Cooperative has added a second monthly mobile food pantry for veterans and their families on Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lee County Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic in Cape Coral. The second monthly date was added to meet the growing need for area veterans for food assistance.
The mobile food pantry is one of Community Cooperative’s most innovative ways to bring food into neighborhoods that lack resources and access to large retail stores with fresh food and grocery products.
At the now twice-monthly pantries, veterans and their families will receive a week’s worth of shelf-stable food, meat and fresh produce. The VA recently honored Community Cooperative with the inaugural Bay Pines Director’s Club award for its food assistance program at the Lee County VA Clinic.
The mobile food pantries have returned to the pre-pandemic walkup model with full registration. In addition, the Community Market is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-noon for groceries at the main campus, 3433 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Fort Myers.
In addition to the mobile food pantries, community partner locations in Bonita Springs, Lehigh Acres and Pine Manor are offering free COVID-19 vaccines for individuals 18 years and older at some food pantries.
