Chocolate Festival to support childhood cancer with sweet treats

A woman hands out samples at a booth displaying cups of food in a shopping mall during Port Charlotte events, while people gather and interact at nearby tables—a warm scene supporting local causes like Advocate Radiation Oncology and childhood cancer awareness.

Chocolate lovers across Southwest Florida are encouraged to satisfy their sweet tooths at the eighth annual Chocolate Festival on Sept. 27 at the Port Charlotte Town Center.

Guests will be able to taste chocolates, baked goods and other confections from a variety of local restaurants, country clubs and bakeries. In exchange for a $15 donation, guests will receive a to-go box they can stuff with their favorite sweets and treats. Proceeds will support Children’s Cancer Center, a Florida-based nonprofit that supports families fighting childhood cancer or chronic blood disorders.

“The Children’s Cancer Center has relentlessly served the families in our community,” said Dr. David Rice, a board-certified radiation oncologist who treats patients at Advocate Radiation Oncology’s cancer treatment centers in Port Charlotte and Venice. “It is incredibly important for community members to be introduced to and support Children’s Cancer Center through events like the Chocolate Festival.”

Last year’s Chocolate Festival raised $4,500, which helped cover immediate needs of local families with children battling pediatric cancer.

Advocate Radiation Oncology is the presenting sponsor for Chocolate Festival alongside Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota and Port Charlotte Town Center.

The Chocolate Festival runs from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Port Charlotte Town Center, 1441 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte. Early registration is encouraged and available online at ChocolateFest25.GiveSmart.com.
