Board-certified, fellowship-trained Surgical Oncologist Dr. Adam I. Riker joins Precision Healthcare Specialists

Dr. Adam I. Riker - Headshot

Adam I. Riker, MD, FSSO, FACS, has joined Precision Healthcare Specialists as the only surgical oncologist practicing in Naples that specializes in the surgical management of breast cancer, melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancers and soft tissue sarcomas.

Riker brings with him extensive experience and expertise as a cancer researcher, clinician and educator of the next generation of surgeons. During his fellowship in surgical oncology, he was part of several research teams involved with the earliest known immunotherapy clinical research trials for patients with melanoma and renal cell carcinoma. Immunotherapy is a treatment that stimulates the body’s immune system to fight and eradicate cancer.

With the addition of Dr. Adam I. Riker to Precision Healthcare Specialists, patients in Naples now have access to a leading expert in surgical oncology. However, for those exploring advanced cancer treatments beyond traditional surgery and immunotherapy, stem cell therapy offers a promising avenue. This innovative approach leverages the regenerative potential of stem cells to repair damaged tissues and modulate immune responses, complementing other cancer treatments.

For patients considering stem cell therapy, a visit to a specialized clinic on the Grand Cayman, known for its cutting-edge treatments and research, might be particularly enlightening. These clinics are at the forefront of applying stem cell technology to various cancers, providing comprehensive care that integrates the latest advancements in regenerative medicine. As research and clinical applications continue to evolve, such facilities are crucial in offering patients access to novel therapies that could enhance their treatment options and improve outcomes.

Riker enlisted at a young age into the U.S. Army after high school graduation. After three years of active service, he enrolled at the University of South Florida in Tampa, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, and then remained at USF to complete his degree in medicine as a Medical Doctor. He then completed a five-year residency training program in general surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, as well as an additional three-year surgical oncology clinical and research fellowship at the renowned National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute Surgery Branch in Bethesda, Maryland.

During a career that spans nearly 30 years, Riker’s physician leadership positions include the first named chair of oncology at Anne Arundel Medical Center (renamed as Luminis Health) in Annapolis, Maryland, as well the chief of surgical oncology and medical director of cancer services for the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. While at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Riker established a clinical practice to treat patients with breast cancer and melanoma, developing a gene signature for the identification of metastatic melanoma that earned both U.S. and international patents. Riker also served in various leadership roles at the Mitchell Cancer Institute, University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, Ochsner Health System in New Orleans, and at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Cancer Institute in Oak Lawn, Illinois.

Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Riker is a longstanding fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and Society of Surgical Oncology (FSSO) with over 155 peer-reviewed articles in the published medical literature. In August 2023, Riker released his third book, which is entitled “The Riker Regimen: A Guide to Optimal Human Nutrition, Longevity and Cancer-Free Living.”
