Better Together to host resume workshop and job fair in Jacksonville

Better Together is helping area job seekers on their quests to employment by hosting two hiring resource events in Jacksonville, including a resume workshop on Aug. 24 and community job fair on Sept. 12.

The resume workshop will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24 from noon to 3 p.m. and will teach job seekers how to craft the ideal resume, led by guest speaker Marcie Niedbalski of Avalon Employment Services. Niedbalski was heavily involved with developing the LifeBuilders program at City Rescue Mission, writing the curriculum for the Resume Writing and Interview Skills module, and serving as a mentor to members of the program. She has developed and participated in many other community events geared toward gaining and maximizing employment in the greater Jacksonville area.

The resume workshop will take place at San Marco Church, located at 1620 Naldo Ave. in Jacksonville. The workshop is free, and lunch and child care will be provided. Those interested can register at BetterTogetherUS.org/Lunch-RSVP/ or call 239-470-2733.

Then on Thursday, Sept. 12, job seekers can show off their new resumes at the Better Together job fair, taking place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Normandy Park Baptist Church, located at 7050 Normandy Blvd. in Jacksonville. The church-based job fair connects job seekers with local employers who are ready to hire, while also providing resources to facilitate stronger connections and more hires. Free one-on-one job coaching sessions are available to job seekers to review resumes and interviewing skills, and additional services will be available onsite.

Job seekers and employers can register for the job fair at BetterTogetherUS.org/Normandy or by texting “JOBS” to 844-987-3949.

The events are part of Better Together’s “Better Jobs” program, which has helped 45,000 applicants connect with employment opportunities across 24 states. At job fairs hosted by Better Together, two-thirds of attendees get a job interview, and 1 in 4 receive a job offer on the spot. Some 70% find work within six weeks.
