Better Together, a nonprofit dedicated to families and children, is helping area job seekers secure employment opportunities by hosting two hiring events in Jacksonville, including a community job fair Oct. 3 and a second chance hiring fair on Oct. 22.
The Thursday, Oct. 3 community job fair is open to all job seekers and will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gardenview Baptist Church, located at 3139 Armsdale Road in Jacksonville. The church-based job fair connects job seekers with local employers who are ready to hire, while also providing resources to facilitate stronger connections and more hires.
Job seekers interested in the Oct. 3 event can register at BetterTogetherUS.org/Gardenview or by texting “JOBS” to 844-987-3949.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, Better Together is partnering with Northside Church of Christ to host a second chance hiring fair for job seekers with barriers to employment. These barriers can include incarceration, homelessness and lack of transportation or child care, or gaps on a resume due to unemployment. While the event is open to all job seekers, the job fair features resources and employers who see the value in second-chance hires. The background-friendly, second chance hiring fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Northside Church of Christ, located at 4736 Ave. B in Jacksonville.
Job seekers can register for the Oct. 22 event at BetterTogetherUS.org/NorthsideCOC or by texting “JOBS” to 844-987-3949.
The events are part of Better Together’s “Better Jobs” program, which has helped nearly 40,000 applicants connect with employment opportunities across 24 states. At job fairs hosted by Better Together, two-thirds of attendees get a job interview, and 1 in 4 receive a job offer on the spot. Some 70% find work within six weeks. Free one-on-one job coaching sessions will be available at both events to review resumes and interviewing skills, along with additional services onsite.
