Avow Veterans Committee honored veterans from all branches and their families at a free Armed Forces Day event.
The event included special readings to honor veterans, patriotic songs and special recognition of the veterans in attendance with presentation of Avow challenge coins. Challenge coins have been an American military tradition for a century, meant to instill unit pride, improve esprit de corps and reward hard work and excellence. They can be made for special events and anniversaries. The first Avow challenge coin was presented to the late Bruce Hayhoe, a military veteran and one of the founders of Avow.
Avow honors veterans with ceremonies throughout the year, including distributing approximately 2,000 pins for recognition of service annually. Avow is a Level 5 Partner with We Honor Veterans, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).
About 100 people attended the event on May 19 on the Avow campus in Naples. Avow distributed 81 challenge coins.
