Nonprofit welcomes first residents to new apartment community

Six years after incorporating as a nonprofit, Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance marked completion of its first affordable apartment building with a community-wide Move-in Celebration. Project and community leaders delivered poignant remarks before families and future residents toured the new building, which includes 16 two- and three-bedroom units. Seven more apartment buildings are in the planning stages. In addition to 26 on-air mentions on WINK, NBC2 and ABC7 (with stories still to come on FOX4 and WGCU), the following online news stories recapped the celebratory event.

Restaurants bring the sizzle to SWFL 

Priority Marketing is teaming up with Sizzle Dining for the first time to promote the region’s top restaurants while raising money for Blessings in a Backpack. The Sept. 5-25 event will feature a record-breaking 116 establishments in Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties – including Priority Marketing clients Del Mar, Old Vines Naples and JWB Grill – that will be offering prix-fixe menus for lunch and dinner. Chocolatier prepares to open first salon on Florida’s east coast 

Norman Love Confections plans to open its seventh chocolate salon in Florida, choosing Delray Beach for the Fort Myers-based chocolatier’s first location on Florida’s Atlantic coast. The debut will give South Florida residents and visitors easy access to Norman Love’s ultra-premium, artisanal chocolates and a salon to delight in culinary chocolate confections, artisanal baked goods and gourmet desserts by world-renowned chocolatiers and pastry chefs. The Delray Beach chocolate salon will also offer artisan gelato and a variety of specialty coffees. A chamber ribbon cutting is set for Sept. 20.

New early learning center debuts in Lehigh Acres 

A collaborative community partnership between The School District of Lee County, the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida and Child Care of Southwest Florida has brought a new state-of-the-art learning center to Lehigh Acres. The G. Weaver Hipps Early Learning Center accommodates over 250 students to help alleviate demand for high-quality childcare and early education options for families with infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children.

Michael Phelps to make splash at SWFL gala 

Kids’ Minds Matter announced that Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, will speak at the nonprofit’s Signature Gala next March. The swimmer will share his mental health story about how he began to put equal emphasis on his physical and mental health after living with depression and anxiety for years. The event is designed to help remove the stigma of mental health issues, raising awareness and necessary funds to expand services for children and families.
