Nonprofit celebrates $20 million, 100K milestone
The Bobby Nichols-Fiddlesticks Charity Foundation awarded over $1.6 million in grants to six children’s charities of the 23rd annual Nichols Cup, bringing its cumulative fundraising total to $20 million while helping more than 100,000 abused and neglected children. Pace Center for Girls, Lee was among this year’s beneficiaries, along with Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida, Abuse Counseling & Treatment, Blessings in a Backpack, Liberty Youth Ranch and Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Venice.

SWFL doctors, practices recognized for pro bono work
United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades’ WeCare program amassed over 2,300 pro bono medical encounters with patients in need during 2024, amounting to more than $9 million in free care. Nearly 200 individual providers and 20 organizations partnered with United Way through WeCare. Among the top five individual providers for 2024 were Dr. Anthony Anfuso of Precision Healthcare Specialists and Dr. Graciela Garton of Advocate Radiation Oncology. Lee Health and Advocate Radiation Oncology were among the top five organizations.
Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce: United Way’s WeCare program provided over $9 million worth of free medical services to patients in 2024
Edison Awards bring spotlight to SWFL
Innovators and entrepreneurs from around the world descended on Southwest Florida in early April for The 2025 Edison Awards, a global platform celebrating game-changing technology. The Horizon Foundation was among the local groups that helped bring this international competition to Fort Myers, and the organization again served as an event sponsor.

Lessons from a wine connoisseur
Old Vines Naples at Mercato and Old Vines Supper Club have quickly earned acclaim from foodies in Southwest Florida, but the establishments also have become a favorite of wine connoisseurs. Wine is complex, and to help break down the jargon and flavors, Priority Marketing secured in-studio appearances on Gulf Coast ABC for Zach Bingham, Old Vines’ director of wine and educational development. His April segment covered “pink” wines and the process of blending or mixing wines, while his March segment addressed “green” winemaking practices.

- Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers Beach and Compass Hotel By Margaritaville Naples earned Autism Double-Checked (ADC) certification.
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County named Ryan Mejias as its 2025 Youth of the Year.
- California Closets of Southwest Florida was recognized by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida as the 2025 Honoree at the nonprofit’s Storybook Ball.
