Southwest Florida men now have access to the Hydros Robotic System, a second-generation machine integrating built-in artificial intelligence to treat prostate conditions through aquablation.
Following an initial pilot phase, Dr. Marc Melser has begun treating patients at HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte. The medical center is the first in Southwest Florida offering this machine to treat enlarged prostates.
The Hydros Robotic System offers the next evolution of aquablation, a type of therapy that uses real-time, ultrasound-guided, robotic-assisted, heat-free waterjets to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Symptoms of an enlarged prostate include frequent urination during the day or night, incomplete emptying of the bladder, the need to stop and start several times when urinating, a weak urine flow or difficulty starting to urinate.
Hydros’ FirstAssist AI is built from a library of real-world aquablation procedures that incorporates advanced image recognition software to identify critical anatomy through an ultrasound. It then suggests optimal treatment plans for each patient.
“This machine combines the knowledge and skills of individual physicians with a worldwide digital library of similar cases, allowing doctors to customize a treatment plan based on specific conditions and concerns with a patient,” said Melser, a board-certified urologist with Precision Healthcare Specialists. “The Hydros system represents the future of BPH treatment, so the fact that we’re offering this in Southwest Florida is a tremendous asset for men experiencing symptoms of an enlarged prostate.”
Melser earned an undergraduate degree at Emory University and a medical degree at Georgetown University. He then completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Cincinnati and an internship in general surgery, a residency in urology and a fellowship in endourology and extracorporeal lithotripsy at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Melser has expertise in treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the prostate, kidney stones and cancer, bladder cancer, and erectile dysfunction and low testosterone, known as male hypogonadism.
HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital owns the Hydros system.
Melser’s office is located at 3410 Tamiami Trail, Suite 4, in Port Charlotte. Visit PHSpecialists.com or call 941-235-7281 for more information.
