Advocate Radiation Oncology unveils SWFL’s first Halcyon machine to deliver radiotherapy treatments to cancer patients

Advocate Radiation Oncology has introduced Southwest Florida’s first Halcyon radiotherapy system, which uses image-guided radiotherapy to deliver cancer treatment solutions with precision and comfort.

Engineered by Varian Medical Systems, the Halcyon machine features utilizes high quality on-board imaging in conjunction with sophisticated radiation delivery. It has intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) capabilities offering individually tailored image-guided treatment plans.

“We are proud to bring Southwest Florida its first Halcyon system. This technology allows us to provide extremely precise radiation treatment with enhanced patient comfort,” said Dr. Arie Dosoretz, the managing partner at Advocate Radiation Oncology. “The Halcyon can deliver high-quality treatment in an exceptionally efficient manner. We want to give our patients the best quality of life both during and after their treatment.”

The Halcyon has proven effective for breast, prostate, lung, brain and other types of cancers. The machine features soft, ambient lighting and smooth, quiet motions, and treatments that can be delivered in a matter of minutes, drastically reducing the time that patients must spend in the doctor’s office.

“This is a particularly stressful time for anyone undergoing cancer treatment. Our patients deserve to feel as comfortable as possible.” Dosoretz said. “That is why we have invested in the most innovative, cutting-edge technology on the market today.”

In addition to the Halcyon machine, Advocate Radiation Oncology also offers the “TrueBeam” linear accelerator, which is used to precisely target and destroy tumor cells using external-beam radiation. Advocate Radiation Oncology offers IMRT, SRS (Stereotactic Radiosurgery) and SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy) capabilities, allowing for radiation plans that can be delivered in as few as one treatment, and high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy.

Advocate Radiation Oncology has three convenient locations in Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Port Charlotte, and is directed by a team of world-class board-certified radiation oncologists: Drs. Alan Brown, Arie Dosoretz, Daniel Dosoretz, Amy Fox, Graciela Garton, Michael Katin, David Rice and James Rubenstein. For more information, please visit AdvocateRO.com.
